ELPunk (short for ElectroluminescencePunk) is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, and costuming that typically features electrically powered lighting and effects systems installed within or upon costumes or clothing, especially in a setting inspired by futuristic or computer generated worlds and environments.

ELPunk founder (Rev. McPherson), a well known costumer from New York City, coined the term ELPunk (short for ElectroluminescencePunk) back in early 2007.  It began as a slang term to help define the use of glowing effects and lighting systems in costumes during private and public nightclub events.  With the advent of customizable EL clothing and costumes in recent years the term has become a staple of the costumer community in New York and around the world.
